Adenosine triphosphate is an energy compound present in all living cells and because of that it is a measure for active biomass. The ATP measurement is based on the reaction of luciferin with luciferase (coming from fireflies). Through this reaction, light is produced, which is measured and expressed in Relative Light Units (RLU). The ATP content is a measure for the quantity of active biomass. |
