WLN-CA.W.19.2Determination of the chemical oxygen consumption in water by means of sealed tube methodin accordance with NEN-ISO 15705
Principle:The analysis sample is heated at 148 °C during a certain time in a strong sulphuric acidic environment in presence of silver sulphate and mercury(II) sulphate with a surplus of potassium dichromate. The present oxidizable substances are oxidized by the potassium dichromate. The consumed quantity of potassium dichromate is determined spectrofotometrical and is a measure for the chemical oxygen consumption. The measurement in the high range (up to 1000 mg/l O2) are performed at a wavelenght of 605 nm. Measurements in the range up to 150 mg/l O2 are performed at a wavelenght of 440 nm.
Determination:Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)
Performance characteristics:
Matrices qualified by the Dutch RvA:Wastewater, Groundwater, Surface water
Reporting limit:5 mg O2/l, matrix dependent
Measurement uncertainty:20%
Sustainability:28 days , if conserved with H2SO4
Sampling bottle:Glass , brown , 250 ml , conservation with H2SO4 (fill up to the neck of the bottle)
