A diluted sample is pipetted in a microtiter plate, containing dehydrated medium with 4-Methylumbelliferyl-β-D-glucuronide (MUG). The microtiter plate is examined in the dark under a UV lamp at a wavelength of 365 nm, after an incubationof 36 hours at 44 °C. The presence of E. coli is indicated by a blue fluorescence as result ofthe hydrolysis of MUG. The results are expressed in MPN (Most Probable Number) per 100 ml. |
