Fluoride, chloride and sulphate are separated in a column filled with a low capacity ion exchanger consisting of inert cores of styrene/divinylbenzene copolymer to which tetramethylammonium groups have been applied. The separated ions are detected by measuring the specific (electrical) conductivity of the liquid flow. By placing a membrane suppressor after the separation column, the cations in the sampleand the sodium ions from the eluent are exchanged for the hydroniumions (H3O+). |
